Edlin and Poppler to Present at EECMA 2015 on the Water Battle between Big Ag and Big Oil

Managing Partner Noel Edlin and Partner Erin K. Poppler will speak at the Emerging and Environmental Claims Managers Association (EECMA) Conference on April 30, 2015. They will be joined by Farallon Consulting’s Steve Figgins, a leading Geophysicist and expert in water science, to discuss how the increasingly limited water supply in California is creating major friction between the agriculture and oil industries. The problem is rooted in the fact that farmers in California’s San Joaquin Valley, who depend heavily on the Central Valley aquifer system for water, no longer have sufficient access to this precious resource from underground aquifers and surface water. Climate change and drought have cut farmers’ usable well water to a trickle by lowering water tables to historic depths. Farmers and ranchers are concerned that oil companies may be to blame for well-water contamination. Edlin, Poppler, and Figgins will explore these complicated issues and discuss whether the current situation will create a permanent rift between “Big Ag” and “Big Oil”.

The annual EECMA conference is a forum for learning about the latest topics and trends in environmental litigation that affect insurance companies and their clients. This will be the fifth year Edlin Gallagher Huie + Blum attorneys have presented at the conference. Click here to see the full agenda. To register for the conference, click here.
